Commission gender balance improves thanks to the EPP Group

McGuiness - Dombrovskis

With the confirmation of Mairead McGuinness as the new European Commissioner for Financial Services and current Commission Vice-President Valdis Dombrovskis as the new Trade Commissioner, the gender balance of the European Commission has been improved, thanks to the EPP Group. There are now more women than men among the European Commissioners that come from EPP parties.

"In addition to having very experienced candidates, the EPP Group is demonstrating its deep commitment to gender equality. While some political groups are just talking, we are taking concrete action", said Markus Ferber MEP, EPP Group Spokesman on Economic and Monetary Affairs, and Christophe Hansen MEP, EPP Group Spokesman in the International Trade Committee of the European Parliament.

"Mairead McGuinness and Valdis Dombrovskis gave excellent performances during their hearings and their confirmation is a logical move. With the two of them, we have two key players ready to guide European policy skilfully", Ferber and Hansen concluded.
